In her performance-based videos, Deborah White expresses the notion that the sacred can exist within what is commonly thought of as the unproductive aspects of society—that is, amongst the waste, the erotic, laughter, music and dance. Her rituals involve mind clearing elixirs, disembodiment and journeys to the skies and underworld. Her work captures the intimacy, joy and playful vibrancy of ecstasy and traditions of craft and decorative arts; as well as a musing on the impossibility of recreating any moment of our lives in its entirety.
