Site Specific ’is an intriguing exploration of two personal journeys following maps, landmarks, stories and intuition to past destinations and memories.
Artists Mary Murphy and Bernadette Pilli explore a similar theme – that of searching out and revisiting memories and personal stories which have shaped their lives. Mary uses an ornithological theme to explore a shifting environment. The return of birds is paralleled with the return of a new generation to the regenerated landscapes of the north. Bernadette exploring the return paths and highways, to known destinations through landscape and maps; the past connected with the present.
The artwork is connected through these ‘site specific’ maps, landmarks and intuition to past destinations and memories – some shared and familiar, others quite separate and unknown. Both artists explore changes to the landscape and how we recognize these with the passing of time. How do we find our way back to the way things were?
