City of Darebin Art and History Collection

Darebin Council acknowledges the importance of the City’s cultural heritage and maintains a substantial collection of contemporary artworks and historical items that reflect the artistic, social and political aspirations of the local community.

The role of the City of Darebin Art and History Collection is to inspire, inform, engage and connect the community in an appreciation of the visual arts and to support local artists in their endeavours to contribute to a vibrant municipal culture.

Artworks are acquired for the collection following Darebin Council’s Arts, Culture and Heritage policy guidelines. The collection comprises contemporary visual arts including: paintings, works on paper, photographs, ceramics, textiles, sculpture; urban and public art; historical documents and heritage artefacts.

Artists represented in the collection include: John Borrack, Eolo Paul Bottaro, Turbo Brown, Bindi Cole Chocka, Megan Cope, DAMP, Tama tk Favell, Aunty Gwen Garoni, Jennifer Goodman, Mary Hammond, Katherine Hattam, Siri Hayes, Hilary Jackman, Charlie O, Polixeni Papapetrou, Steaphan Paton, David Ray, Yhonnie Scarce, Vipoo Srivilasa, Nick Stella, Natalie Thomas, Peter Waples Crowe, Sharon West, Paul Wood and Alice Wormald.

The collection is displayed around Darebin in a variety of facilities including Bundoora Homestead Art Centre, Preston and Northcote Town Halls, Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre, Bundoora Park, Darebin libraries, customer service centres, civic and leisure centres while public artworks are displayed in the streets and parks throughout the municipality.
